Cafes, markets, river parks & hidden alleys — Seoul beyond the guidebook · 2 nights 3 days
Last updated: 2026.06.07
Skip the tourist trail and discover the Seoul that locals actually live in. This 2-night 3-day route takes you through Seongsu-dong's industrial-chic cafe scene, the peaceful Hangang riverbanks, the historic alleys of Ikseon-dong, and the weekend energy of Mangwon-dong market — the real Seoul.
1Day 1 — Seongsu-dong & Seoul Forest
- Seongsu-dong (10 AM): Seoul's most photogenic neighborhood. Converted shoe factories and warehouses now house specialty roasters, brunch spots, and independent fashion brands. Must-visit: Daelim Warehouse, Fritz Coffee, Onion Seongsu.
- Seoul Forest (1 PM): A peaceful 35-hectare park. Spot deer in the deer garden, cycle along the paths, or lay in the grass with a book. The footbridge over the highway offers great city views.
- Ttukseom Hangang Park (4 PM): Rent an electric scooter, buy convenience store snacks, and watch the Han River turn golden at sunset. The Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain (visible across the river) runs on evenings and weekends.
2Day 2 — Ikseon-dong & Euljiro
- Ikseon-dong (10 AM): A 1930s neighborhood of narrow alleys converted into wine bars, dessert cafes, and artisan workshops. The traditional architecture mixed with modern menus is uniquely Seoul.
- Euljiro (1 PM): The "hipster" area of old print shops and hardware stores, now filled with retro bars and restaurants. The basement of Sewoon Shopping Complex is a fascinating blend of old industry and new creativity.
- Gwangjang Market (3 PM): The oldest market in Seoul, famous for mungbean pancakes (bindaetteok), silk fabrics, and raw beef (yukhoe). One of Korea's most authentic market experiences.
- Evening: Explore the pojangmacha (street tent bars) in the Euljiro 3-ga area — a quintessential Seoul nightlife experience.
3Day 3 — Mangwon-dong & Hongdae
- Mangwon Market (9 AM): A beloved local market with excellent tteok (rice cakes), fresh produce, and homestyle Korean food at very low prices. Best before 11 AM while it's fresh.
- Mangwon Hangang Park (11 AM): A quieter riverbank park popular with local families. Rent a tandem bike and cycle east along the Han River trail.
- Hongdae & Hapjeong (1 PM): Browse the independent record stores, vintage clothing shops, and street art before heading to the airport. Hongik University Station is directly connected to the AREX line.
💡 Local Seoul Tips
Download Naver Map (better than Google Maps for Seoul public transport) and set it to Korean-English bilingual mode. The Kakao T app is the best way to hail taxis. Most specialty cafes in Seongsu-dong open at 11 AM and close by 9 PM — check Instagram for exact hours.
