From landing to your hotel — your perfect Day 1 route · Day trip

Last updated: 2026.06.07

Your Korea adventure begins at Incheon International Airport. After a long flight, having a clear plan for immigration → currency exchange → transportation → first-day sightseeing makes all the difference. Follow this guide and you can be checked into your Seoul hotel within 2 hours of landing.

1 First Things at the Airport

🛂 Immigration

  • Foreign visitors use the Foreigners line. Those registered for Smart Entry Service (SES) can use automated gates for faster processing.
  • Complete your arrival card on the plane. Make sure you have a valid K-ETA or visa before arriving in Korea.
  • Peak congestion: weekend mornings 9–11 AM. Expect 30 minutes to 1 hour wait.

🧳 Baggage Claim

  • After immigration, check the Baggage Claim board for your flight's belt number.
  • T1 (Terminal 1) and T2 (Terminal 2) are separate buildings. Check your boarding pass for the correct terminal.
  • If your bag doesn't arrive, report immediately to the Baggage Service desk.

💵 Currency Exchange & T-money Card

  • Currency exchange: Use the Woori Bank or Hana Bank counters at the airport. Independent kiosks may offer worse rates.
  • Tip: Exchange only about $100 at the airport. You'll get better rates at Myeongdong exchange shops in the city.
  • T-money transit card: Buy at the convenience store (CU or GS25) right after exiting arrivals. Cost approx. ₩4,000. Works on subway, bus, and AREX.
  • Top up your card at convenience store counters or subway station recharge machines.

💡 How to Start Day 1 Relaxed

After a long-haul flight, the key to a great trip is conserving energy on your first day. Grabbing dinner from a convenience store near your hotel or finding a simple restaurant around the corner is perfectly fine — there's no need to rush.

Before you sleep tonight: Check the opening hours of tomorrow's attractions, save the subway map offline, and locate the nearest convenience store and pharmacy. These three steps make Day 2 dramatically smoother.
