May Holiday — Parking & Departure Strategies
AirParking real-time data analysis · Updated 2026
What Is Korea's Golden Week?
Korea's Golden Week falls in early May, clustering Children's Day (5 May), Parents' Day (8 May), and Buddha's Birthday (around 5 May lunar). When these overlap with weekends, commuters get a string of consecutive days off — perfect for overseas travel, and a recipe for an extremely busy Incheon Airport.
Japan's own Golden Week occurs at almost the same time, sending a wave of Japanese tourists to Korea while Korean travellers fill outbound flights to Japan and Southeast Asia simultaneously.
🕐 Peak Hours During Golden Week

🅿️ Golden Week Parking Strategies
- 1Pre-book early — ideally 3+ weeks ahead
Golden Week demand is comparable to Chuseok. Reserved parking fills up quickly, and walk-up spots in long-term lots can disappear by mid-morning on the first holiday day.
- 2Check AirParking live occupancy before you leave home
Our real-time dashboard shows which car parks still have space so you can target the right zone from the start rather than circling.
- 3Consider public transport for this holiday period
AREX express train from Seoul Station or Gimpo Airport runs every 5–10 minutes and avoids all road and car park congestion. If you're travelling light, it's often the smartest choice during Golden Week.
- 4Allow 4 hours before your flight
Even if you've pre-booked parking, the shuttle, check-in, security, and immigration queues are all stretched during Golden Week.
